The Story

Our story begins with university student, Gracen Johnson. She heard from David Suzuki, while watching CBC’s The Hour, that our best chance to affect real change in our government’s inaction towards climate change is to fill Parliament Hill with concerned citizens, just like her.

“We need government. We need government to set regulation and to use taxation creatively [...]. There is no reason to feel hopeful about [government action] unless the public begins to really respond [...] If you want to get the government to respond to public concern get a hundred thousand [people] in Ottawa. [...] Whatever is or is not done in the next few years will reverberate throughout the lives of our young people today. They’ve got everything at stake, so I’m challenging them; get your act together [...] go to Ottawa and demand it.” – - David Suzuki, The Hour, 2008

What started as one girl determined to do everything within her power to ensure a future worth living for, is now a climate wave gaining momentum nationwide. C-Day is grassroots at its best. We are a cross-country team made up entirely of volunteers.. We are of all ages and backgrounds and we are all Filling The Hill for different reasons. In other words, we are people like you who are devoting time and heart and effort to the realization of C-Day because it is unfathomably important that we do this.

On October 24, Canada will unite for the single greatest threat to the future of humanity. We face heavyweight opponents like laziness, hopelessness, and perhaps nippy October weather, but fortunately you shall overcome! And when you do, you will join the ranks of thousands of concerned Canadian residents who will Fill The Hill and help make climate history.

This is C-Day. Thousands will Fill The Hill to stand for the people, places, and things that they care about. Thousands will walk and roll to converge on the front lawn of Parliament to show our representatives that “yes THEY can,” commit to mitigation, adaptation and a green economy.

We can do this Canada, but everything depends on you. All of you. You can watch us in the news and wish you were there, or you can be part of the climate wave to make change and make history.  Tell everyone you know to just get on The Hill. Just get on The Hill.
