Web 2.0 for Beginners
Who or what are you Filling the Hill for? Your child? Future child? Niece or nephew? Grandkids? Or is it the things you love? Walks in the woods, the sound of birds, relaxing times with friends, great food.
You know that so much is at stake. There is too much to lose if we do little to mitigate climate change today.
That’s why you’re joining thousands in making the trek to Parliament Hill on October 24 to tell our government that we want binding and science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Tell us your story. Who or what are you Filling the Hill for? Chronicle your trek via Twitter, Blog, Vlog or Facebook. Whether you are coming by train, bus, carpool, bike, or your own two feet, keep us apprised of your journey.
Tips on Tweeting, Blogging, Vlogging and Facebooking
Tweeting, blogging, etc. are great ways to communicate your story, and are easy to set up. Once you’re set up, send cheryl@climateday.ca the link! We will post on our Share Your Journey Page. Check out other links and post them on your site. Connect. Join the conversation.
Twitter
What is it? Twitter is a microblog. With just 140 words per tweet, your messages are pretty concise and to the point.
Ideal for?
• Chronicling your journey to the Hill – tell what you see, what you experience.
• Day-of-event chatter – describe the experience to those who can’t be on the Hill.
• If you write a blog, tweet about it – after each blog instalment, tweet the title and link.
How do I connect with others? Once you sign up, click ‘Find People’, located at the top of the page. Type in key words such as ‘green’, ‘carbon’, ‘environment’ to find people or organizations that you would like to follow. Chances are, once you start following them, they will return the favour and follow you. Be sure to include one of these key words in your Twitter name (e.g. Green Mike or Eco Gayle) so that like-minded folks can find you too.

Blog
What is it? Online personal journal; news column; advice column. Whatever it is to you, it’s a great way to contribute to the Fill the Hill conversation. Everyone has a story as to why they want to Fill the Hill to make climate change history. Your story is very important. Tell us through your blog or create a blog if you don’t have one.
Ideal for? In-depth coverage of your trek to and experience on the Hill. This is history in the making. You’re coverage will inspire others and perhaps be important documentation during a critical moment in human history.
How do I connect with others?
• Send us your link. We’ll post it.
• Email your friends, family and acquaintances the link to each blog instalment, or ask them to follow you by clicking the subscribe link at the bottom of the page.
• Provide a link to your favourite blogs and ask these bloggers to do the same for you.
How do I signup? If you have your own website, you may be able to include a blog widget. If not, there are a number of blog worlds you can sign yourself up to, such as….

Vlog
What is it? If words on a page don’t move you, you could always video your journey and post on a blog. The video could be as simple as speaking to your computer camera, or as complex as a Doc Short. It’s up to you. Just upload the file to your blog.

• Chronicling your journey to the Hill
• Showing us your time on the Hill
How do I connect with others? Same as the blog. But please do sign up on YouTube to upload your videos. It will give you a much wider audience.

Facebook
What is it? The largest social networking site on the planet.
Ideal for?
• Letting your Facebook friends know about your trek and asking them to join you
• Connecting with other trekkers.
• Chronicling your trek via wall posts and status updates.
How do I connect with others? Join our Facebook group and join the conversation! Ask your friends to join our group.
