T-Shirt Project
Be the Shirts on Our Backs
Canada being a large country, Parliament Hill is more than a hop, skip and a jump away from much of our population. Regardless, we would like all of Canada to be a part of ºC-Day to Fill The Hill. In light of that, we are sending out 50 (ethically made) white t-shirts free of charge to be designed by groups and individuals across the country. These shirts will be worn in your honour by someone on Parliament Hill, come October 24.
Your design should answer the question “Who or what are you Filling The Hill for?” Let your imagination take the reins – just make sure the shirt remains wearable! Although we are limited to 50 complimentary shirts, we encourage anyone to design and send white t-shirts of their own! Here are the decorating guidelines:
- Leave the back of shirt and sleeves blank – we need that canvas. ONLY design the front.
- Use materials that won’t bleed in the rain, fade in the sun, or fall off in the wind.
- To further personalize your shirt, consider including your city and province to show how far your shirt has travelled.
- You will probably want to make sure that your shirt remains machine-washable
Please send completed shirts to this address:

Unfortunately, we will not be able to return shirts to senders after the event as there will be too many for us to track down and get back when day is done.
Why are we doing this?
We want people way up in Yellowknife to be able to Fill The Hill vicariously with these shirts and their wearers.- These shirts will be partnered with our Proclamation of Support which participants can fill with signatures. The Proclamation essentially says, “I would be on The Hill, but due to distance and/or the inaccessibility of sustainable transportation, I cannot be present.” Obviously, we need as many people on that hill as can get there, but these signatures add to our numbers, thereby strengthening our presence.
- It’s fun.
- We have a special plan for the backs of the shirts. Remember, don’t decorate the back – leave that to us.
- Climate change is an emotional issue as much as it is scientific and political and…so many other heavy adjectives. We need to show that on The Hill. The messages on these shirts add a human value that is fundamental to making strong commitments, yet so often lost when climate change is politicized.
“I want a shirt!”
To obtain one or more of our 50 shirts, contact amanda@climateday.ca (if you live west of Ontario) or heather@climateday.ca (if you live east of Manitoba).
We also encourage everyone to find a shirt of their own to send in or wear to The Hill.
